Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman said the condition of rice farming in West Kalimantan had experienced a surplus of quite a lot, reaching 350 thousand tons. For Sanggau Regency, the surplus of rice has exceeded 50 thousand tons.

Amran said the Malaysian government needs to import more than one million tons of rice every year. This need is covered by importing from Thailand, Vietnam, and a number of other countries. To cover these needs, the Indonesian government has held talks and convinced the Malaysian government that Indonesia can participate in covering these needs.
Importers from Malaysia also asked for a supply of rice from Indonesia as much as 140 thousand tons. For this reason, said Amran, exports to Malaysia will not only be carried out this time, the Ministry of Agriculture will gradually export rice according to needs.
